Pre-6, Smolder + Zyra win most extended trades due to Zyra's plants providing sustained damage and Smolder's Q stacking giving him a scaling advantage even early; you should avoid prolonged fights and respect Zyra's E root setup.
Post-6, you gain meaningful poke range with your R, but Zyra's R can still punish Leona's engage attempts, so the 2v2 remains contested rather than clearly in your favor.

Your best pattern is to use Leona's engage as a window to land your E-Q combo and immediately disengage before Zyra's plants and Smolder's follow-up deal sustained damage back; you are a burst-and-retreat duo, not a sustained fighting one.
Never commit to a full all-in unless Zyra's E and R are both on cooldown, as those two abilities alone can flip a fight.

Push the wave efficiently with your Q to deny Smolder stacks on minions, since Smolder's Q stacking on the wave is a core part of his scaling; denying him free farm under pressure is more valuable than playing for poke.
Avoid freezing the wave in a position where Zyra can zone you with plant pressure while Smolder freely stacks.

Do not use your E aggressively into Zyra's plants or root zone, as burning your escape tool in a losing trade leaves you vulnerable to an immediate all-in from Leona's side of the matchup.
Your E is your primary survival tool against Leona's engage chain, and wasting it on a trade you don't need to take is the most common mistake in this lane.
