Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Nautilus wins the support 1v1 and the lane duo wins most all-ins because Nautilus's passive auto-attack root combined with Caitlyn's range and traps creates a CC chain you cannot match reliably; your Q has counterplay while his does not.
  • Post-6, you have more outplay potential with your R zone control and lantern escapes, but Nautilus's R into Caitlyn R is a near-guaranteed kill if they use it correctly.

Synergy & Trading

  • Your best pattern is to fish for a Q hook when Nautilus has recently used his own Q, then immediately E to knock them up and allow your Aphelios to cycle into his best weapon for the situation — the window is short so Aphelios must be pre-positioned.
  • Avoid trading when Nautilus is in range to auto-attack you, as his passive root will interrupt your combo and flip the trade.

Wave Control/Roaming

  • You should roam only when the wave is pushed to the enemy tower and Aphelios can safely freeze or hold it, which typically happens after a successful all-in that burns enemy summoners around level 6-7.
  • Do not roam early or frequently because Caitlyn will perma-shove and set up a trap grid under your tower, putting Aphelios in a losing position he cannot handle alone.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not throw your lantern reactively after Nautilus hooks Aphelios — by then it is too late and you have wasted your E.
  • Instead, pre-position your lantern proactively when you see Nautilus winding up his Q so Aphelios can click it before the CC chain completes.
