Pre-6, you win most extended trades if you can land your E slow and follow up with W-empowered autos, but Blitzcrank's Q hook at any point before 6 can instantly flip the lane — you have no mobility to escape it.
Post-6, your R is a massive teamfight threat but Blitzcrank's R silence and Smolder's sustained damage make it hard to channel safely without Shen's R covering you.

Your best pattern is to use E to slow both enemies, immediately proc W passive with an auto on the nearest target, then Q-bounce off the minion wave to hit both opponents for maximum damage.
Avoid standing in a straight line with your support where Blitzcrank can hook one of you and chain into the other.

You want to push the wave consistently to deny Smolder stacks — Smolder scales hard with Q stacks and a slow early game stunts his mid-game power significantly.
Use your wave clear to force Smolder to last-hit under tower, which also reduces Blitzcrank's hook angles since the enemy has to step up.

Do not stand still to channel your R without Shen's R active or a clear escape path — Blitzcrank's R silence will cancel your R mid-channel and leave you fully exposed.
Positioning greedily for damage while Shen is roaming or dead is the most common way to throw this lane.
