Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you and Jhin have the range advantage and your E covers a wide area that Smolder cannot easily dodge, but Karma's R-E gives Smolder a shielded, sped-up escape that makes kills before level 3 unlikely without a clean W root from Jhin first.
  • Post-6, you win the 2v2 if you land your E onto both enemies, as your R combined with Jhin's R creates a kill threat that Karma's healing cannot answer fast enough.

Synergy & Trading

  • Your optimal trading pattern is to throw your E to zone or force Karma to use her E shield on it, then immediately follow with Q once the shield is consumed, letting Jhin's W or basic attacks deal unmitigated damage.
  • If Karma holds her E, you can use your Q to poke Smolder and force the shield reactively, then re-engage with E when it expires.

Wave Control/Roaming

  • You should roam when the wave is pushed into their tower and Jhin can safely freeze or slow-push alone, which typically happens after a successful level 6 all-in that burns Karma's summoners or forces a back.
  • Mid roams are high value because your R range and E root can secure kills on immobile mids, and returning with a gold lead makes the bot lane matchup significantly easier.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your E as a pure poke tool without Jhin being in position to follow up, because a solo E that Karma shields gives away your cooldown and lets Smolder freely farm for 10+ seconds.
  • Your E is a setup ability first — wasting it without a realistic kill or heavy trade follow-up is the most common mistake that lets Smolder reach his mid-game power spike safely.
