Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win the engage battle if you land W-Q cleanly, but Thresh's E can interrupt your W mid-air, which completely negates your all-in and leaves you overextended in Caitlyn's range — the matchup is not a free win pre-6 because of this single counter-mechanic.
  • Post-6, your R makes you nearly unkillable during all-ins, but Caitlyn's R can execute Tristana before you can peel, so you must prioritize peeling Tristana over engaging Caitlyn.

Synergy & Trading

  • Your best trading pattern is to W-Q Caitlyn specifically — not Thresh — to force her out of her optimal range and let Tristana follow up with E-burst.
  • After the engage, immediately use your Q on Caitlyn if she tries to E away, and body-block Thresh's potential hook angle to prevent him from chaining crowd control onto Tristana.

Wave Control/Roaming

  • You should not roam early because Tristana is vulnerable to Caitlyn's poke without your peel, and an absent Alistar means Caitlyn can freely slow-push and trap the lane.
  • If you do roam post-6, only do so after a successful all-in that burns Thresh's R or Caitlyn's flash, ensuring Tristana has a safe lane state before you leave.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use W on minions to reposition aggressively — Thresh will E-interrupt your W-Q if you telegraph the engage by walking toward Caitlyn before activating W.
  • The critical mistake is engaging when Thresh has his E available and you have not identified his positioning, as a single E-interrupt turns your all-in into a losing trade at Caitlyn's range.
