Who Wins
- Pre-6, Pyke+Smolder have the edge: Pyke's hook can interrupt your W+Q setup if he hooks you mid-dash, and Smolder's ranged poke chips you down before you can close the gap.
- Post-6, Pyke's R creates a kill threat on any low-health target that partially neutralizes your peel, but your W+Q combo remains one of the strongest engage tools and you can force fights when Pyke's hook is on cooldown.
Synergy & Trading
- Your optimal pattern is to bait Pyke into using his hook on you or Kai'Sa, then immediately W+Q the carry (Smolder) while Pyke is on cooldown and cannot reposition his ally.
- Your W+Q into Kai'Sa's burst is a near-instant kill window on Smolder if you land it cleanly, so prioritize targeting Smolder over Pyke.
Wave Control/Roaming
- Roaming is risky in this matchup because Pyke will also roam aggressively and he is faster and more lethal in skirmishes than you are.
- If you roam, do so only after shoving the wave to deny Smolder stacks, and only when Pyke's position is visible on the map — a Pyke+Smolder dive on your Kai'Sa while you are gone is a free kill.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use W+Q into a Pyke who still has his E ready, as he will simply sidestep the knockup and punish your cooldowns.
- Avoid standing in Pyke's hook range while your W is on cooldown, as getting hooked without your engage tool available leaves Kai'Sa completely exposed.
