Who Wins
- Pre-6, you win every direct trade at levels 1 through 3 because Hwei's abilities require setup time and you can close the gap with W before his spells land; however, Hwei's Q1 poke is annoying at range and sustained chip damage over many minutes can put you in a bad spot if you are not actively threatening him.
- Post-6, you have a reliable kill pattern with R every time it is up, but Hwei's R shield absorbs a portion of your burst, so you must ensure your shadow autos and Q land before the shield expires to secure the kill.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to throw W to a side angle, wait for Hwei to commit to a spell animation, then dash in with W and land Q through him before he can reposition; short trades heavily favor you, so avoid extended fights where his E slow and repeated Q pokes can whittle you down over time.
Wave Control
- You want to avoid letting Hwei freely shove the wave, because a pushed wave under your tower limits your all-in angles and gives him priority to roam or set up vision; instead, match his push or look to freeze near your side of the lane so he is forced to overextend to farm, creating kill opportunities.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your R on Hwei when he has his R available and full health unless you are confident your burst exceeds his shield value plus his remaining HP — mistiming this results in a failed all-in where he survives, your R is on cooldown, and he can now play aggressively against you for the next 120 seconds.
