Who Wins

Pre-6, Kog'Maw + Lux win the 2v2: Lux's root sets up free poke, and Kog'Maw's W gives him range and on-hit damage that outpaces your early output before you have stacks or items.
Post-6, you gain significant pressure with R's permanent Q activation and upgraded abilities, but Lux's root still threatens to lock you down before you can ramp, so the 2v2 remains contested rather than clearly yours.

Your best trading pattern is to use E's speed boost to close gap on Kog'Maw, proc your passive crit magic damage with stacked Q attacks, and have Nami's W or E amplify your burst window — extended trades favor you, but only if Lux's root is burned or dodged first.
Never commit to a trade while Lux's Q is available; wait for it to be used on the wave or dodged before engaging.

Push the wave consistently to deny Kog'Maw his preferred poke range — a slow-push or crash-and-roam is not your game pre-6, but keeping the wave near their tower limits Lux's ability to freely root you in open space.
Post-6, crashing a wave before R gives you a window to all-in or force a favorable skirmish under their tower.

Do not use R reactively as an escape tool — it upgrades E to a dash but you still need to choose a direction, and burning R defensively wastes your entire damage window.
The biggest mistake is engaging with R while Lux's Q is still up, as a root mid-R cancels your ramp and leaves you exposed with a long cooldown.
