Who Wins
- Pre-6, Gnar's range advantage and poke with his Q make early trades painful for you, but once you hit level 3 and can stack your W ghoul alongside your Q slow, you can force short all-ins that Gnar struggles to disengage from cleanly.
- Post-6, your R is a game-changer: walling Gnar in during his mini form denies his escape and lets your ghouls and E drain his health rapidly, making you the clear winner in extended fights if you land it correctly.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to absorb Gnar's Q poke with minion positioning when possible, then engage when he's in mini form and low on rage — use Q to slow him, drop W, and force him to fight in a confined space where your sustained damage and ghoul pressure overwhelm him.
- Avoid extended poke wars; instead, commit to full trades where your healing from Q and ghoul attrition give you the edge over time.
Wave Control
- Push the wave consistently to deny Gnar his preferred poke range and force him to last-hit under tower, which reduces his ability to harass you freely.
- A slow-pushed wave also sets up your R wall more effectively near his tower, trapping him with no room to kite and letting your ghouls deal maximum damage.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your R reactively when Gnar transforms into his mega form — his R in mega form will CC you through your wall and your ghouls will be less effective against his tankiness and burst.
- Save your R for when he is in mini form or just exiting mega form, as that is when the trap is most punishing and he has the least tools to escape or fight back.
