Who Wins
- You lose early trades pre-6 due to Varus's superior range and poke damage with Q, but can start winning all-ins post-6 when your R gives you reliable engage potential.
- Level 2 E gives you some gap-close potential, but Varus still controls the lane through superior range and wave clear.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to stack Q on minions, then E forward with Q3 knockup into W shield and auto attacks before E2 back to safety.
- Post-6, look for R engages when Varus is positioned aggressively or has used his escape summoners.
Wave Control
- You want to push early waves to prevent Varus from freely poking you while you CS, then look to freeze near your tower where you can run him down with ghost/flash.
- Avoid getting stuck in slow pushes where Varus can poke you repeatedly while you're forced to last hit.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Don't try to trade without your E up, as you'll take free poke damage with no way to retaliate effectively.
- Avoid using E aggressively when Varus has R available, as he can easily follow up with his ultimate when you're locked in animation.
