Who Wins
- Pre-6 you are slightly disadvantaged at level 1 because Riven's Q chain with W stun can burst you before you build passive stacks, but at level 3 your E gives you a meaningful escape tool that lets you disengage after trading and deny her follow-up Q3; post-6 your R is a strong equalizer because it bypasses her E shield on the initial knockup and your true damage on Q3 means her shield stacking becomes less effective in full all-ins.
How to Trade
- Your best pattern is to poke with your ranged Q to chip her down, then use E to close distance for a short trade and immediately disengage before she can complete her full Q-W-Q3 combo; once she has burned her E or Q cooldowns, you can commit to a full trade with your passive stacked for the true damage conversion.
Wave Control
- You want to play a slow push or freeze near your tower to force Riven to overextend for CS, as her wave clear is strong but she needs to walk up aggressively to use it, giving you poke opportunities; avoid shoving into her tower because she can use the reset window to all-in you while you are pushed up and she has full cooldowns.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your R as a pure engage tool when Riven has her E and Q available, because she can E through your R's landing zone and immediately counter-engage with a full combo while you are locked in the animation; also avoid letting her land W stun during your E travel, as being stunned mid-dash cancels your repositioning and leaves you fully exposed to her burst.
