Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose most extended trades because your E dashes are predictable and Irelia's W passive stacks combined with her E reset chain deal more sustained damage than your Q poke; post-6, your R knockup into E-Q-Q combo gives you a real kill window, but only if you land the R on a grounded Irelia — she can still E through your R if she has a minion target nearby.

How to Trade

  • Your best pattern is to use Q to stack tornado from a safe angle, then E onto her only when she has used her E aggressively on a minion, punishing her cooldown window with a full Q tornado into auto-Q combo; never commit to a trade when her E is available because she will reset through your damage and out-sustain you.

Wave Control

  • You want a slow push or freeze near your tower to deny her the minion access she needs to safely stack her passive and engage on you; if the wave is in the middle or pushed toward her, she can freely E into minions to gap-close and trade on her terms, which heavily favors her kit.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not dash E onto Irelia when she has full passive stacks and her E available — this is the single biggest mistake Yasuo players make, as you will eat a full W-empowered trade with E reset pressure and have no escape tool while your own E is on cooldown.
