Who Wins
- Pre-6, you win extended trades at level 3 once you have Q and W online, as your passive healing and W damage reduction let you outlast Rek'Sai in prolonged fights; however, if she burrows and repositions to reset the trade, she can avoid your healing window and chunk you with her E knockup combo before you can sustain back.
- Post-6, your R gives you a reliable all-in tool that locks her in place and triggers your passive healing at full effect, making you heavily favored in a straight 1v1 as long as she cannot escape underground before you land it.
How to Trade
- Force extended trades rather than short exchanges — activate W to reduce her burst, use Q to heal through her poke, and let your passive do the work over a sustained fight.
- Avoid trading in short bursts where she can borrow, reset, and re-engage on her terms, as her unburrowed E knockup into burrowed Q damage is designed to win quick trades.
Wave Control
- You want to slow-push the wave to build a large minion advantage, then crash it and look for a dive or all-in under her tower, since your R and passive sustain make you dangerous even in tower range.
- Avoid freezing, as Rek'Sai can use the frozen wave to safely poke you with burrowed Q tremor sense without committing to a trade.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use R reactively after she has already burrowed — she can use her burrowed W to cancel your leap by displacing herself underground, wasting your cooldown and leaving you vulnerable.
- Committing your R when she is already in motion underground is the single biggest mechanical mistake in this matchup.
