Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Hwei has longer effective range on his poke spells and can rotate between subjects to apply pressure from angles you cannot easily punish with your W — you do not win early trades cleanly, and your level 2 and 3 spikes are not dramatic enough to flip this dynamic.
  • Post-6, your R fundamentally changes the matchup by creating a persistent zone that forces Hwei to reposition constantly, and if you can land your W stun inside your R followed by augmented E, you have a reliable kill pattern that Hwei's kit cannot easily escape.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to place your W slightly ahead of Hwei's movement path rather than directly on him, baiting him into walking through it while you poke with your Q shield and auto-attack Discharge — once he has stacks building, he is forced to either disengage and take your E or stay and risk the stun.
  • Never initiate a trade by walking directly at Hwei without your W already deployed, as his range advantage means he will land his full combo on you before you can close the gap safely.

Wave Control

  • You need to prioritize farming for Hex Fragments consistently, as your mid and late game power is entirely dependent on augmenting your abilities in order — augmented E is your most important power spike for trading, and augmented W makes your zone control nearly inescapable.
  • Push the wave efficiently with your E to maintain priority and avoid being shoved in, because Hwei can roam effectively and if you are stuck clearing under tower you will fall behind in both fragments and map presence.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not place your W in an obvious location where Hwei can simply walk around it — he has enough spell flexibility to disengage and re-engage from a different angle, wasting your W cooldown entirely.
  • Avoid using your R aggressively in the early post-6 window before you have augmented E, because without the aftershock your damage output inside the R is not high enough to kill Hwei before he escapes or out-rotates you with his own combo.
