Scuttle Contest
- At level 3, you lose the scuttle fight against Jarvan IV if he lands his E-Q knockup, as his combo deals more burst damage and his W slow prevents you from repositioning to charge your Q effectively.
- From level 6, you win the 1v1 if you bait out his R first — once he commits his R, you can use your own R to escape the arena or reposition, then re-engage with a fully charged Q into W stacks to outdamage him in a sustained trade.
Predicted Jungle Path
- Jarvan IV typically runs a full clear starting Blue Buff side (Blue → Gromp → Wolves → Raptors → Red → Scuttle) or Red side depending on team composition, and he paths toward early gank opportunities given his strong level 3 E-Q engage.
- Expect him to look for early skirmishes at scuttle or invades around 3:15–3:30, as his kit is designed for early aggression rather than farming.
Invade or Not
- You should generally avoid early invades against Jarvan IV before level 6, as his E-Q knockup punishes you heavily in tight jungle corridors where you cannot charge your Q safely.
- If you do invade, wait until after 4:30 when you have more W stacks built up and can absorb his combo with better HP, targeting his Red Buff or Raptors on the opposite side of the map from where he is tracking.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not engage Jarvan IV in narrow jungle paths without a pre-charged Q ready — his E-Q combo will interrupt your charge and leave you with no gap-close, turning you into a melee champion with no mobility against a champion who has both a knockup and a slow.
- Avoid fighting him near walls or terrain where his E flag placement gives him additional combo angles.
