Who Wins
- Pre-6, you win short trades at level 2 when your E is up because you can close the gap instantly and your passive shield stacks give you durability, but Aatrox's level 3 Q access and omnivamp make extended trades increasingly dangerous for you.
- Post-6, his R healing and AD steroid make it very difficult to kill him in a straight 1v1 unless he is already low, so you need to either end the fight before his R fully ramps or disengage.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to use E to close distance and immediately proc your passive shield, then land your Q to stun and follow with auto-attacks to maximize your burst window before his omnivamp sustain negates your damage.
- Keep trades short and get out before he can land multiple Q sweet spots, because the longer the fight goes the more his healing outpaces your damage output.
Wave Control
- Push the wave hard early to deny Aatrox the ability to set up his preferred extended trade scenario, and look to roam or call for jungle pressure when the wave is shoved, since you outperform him in skirmishes with a numbers advantage.
- Avoid letting him freeze the wave near his tower, as that environment heavily favors his Q setup and makes it difficult for you to engage without eating skillshots.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your E aggressively when Aatrox has his E available, because he can reposition mid-Q animation to land the sweet spot knockup on you and completely flip the trade in his favor.
- Avoid fighting him when his R is active unless you are significantly ahead in health, as the fear on activation can disrupt your combo timing and his healing during R makes your burst damage feel negligible.
