Who Wins
- Pre-6 you win almost every trade because your W fear directly counters Katarina's E-pickup pattern and your passive resets on her dashes, giving you consistent free damage; post-6 your R lets you re-engage after she tries to disengage, and your fear keeps her combo fragmented, so you remain the dominant duelist throughout.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to hold W until Katarina E's onto a dagger, then immediately W to fear her during the pickup animation, auto-attack and Q her while she is feared, and back off before she can reset; this denies her full combo and chunks her for free.
Wave Control
- Play the wave to maintain a slight push so Katarina is forced to farm under pressure, and use your range advantage to poke with Q whenever she steps up to last-hit; this denies her the safe positioning she needs to set up dagger trades.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not waste your W on minions or use it reactively to poke, because it is your primary tool to interrupt Katarina's E and if it is on cooldown when she all-ins you, she can complete a full combo and kill you before the fear becomes available again.
