Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Mel's Q poke range and W projectile reflection make trading extremely dangerous for you — your Q is a skillshot she can simply reflect back, and her passive autos chunk you hard if you step up to farm.
  • Post-6, your R gives you a reliable all-in tool since it's a point-and-click stun cage followed by burst, but Mel's E root and W invulnerability window can interrupt or negate your combo if she reacts correctly, so the kill pressure is real but not guaranteed.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to bait out her W before committing your Q or E — throw out a Q from max range to force the reflection, then immediately follow with your E cage and full combo once W is on cooldown.
  • Never initiate with E first since she can W through the stun window and punish your cooldowns while you have no follow-up.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave consistently with Q to deny her passive auto procs by keeping her at range and forcing her to choose between farming under tower or taking poke — a frozen wave near your tower is actually dangerous here because she can freely stack Overwhelm on you with her Q poke while you're forced to walk up.
  • Prioritize shoving and roaming post-6 since your R is a global threat and you scale better in a side-lane pressure game than in a prolonged poke war.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not walk into her E root casually — being rooted in the center of her E while she has Overwhelm stacks on you and her R available is a near-instant death sentence at most points in the game.
  • Respecting her E range and keeping your distance until you have a clear W-baited window is the single most important discipline in this matchup.
