Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win this lane clearly — your Q poke outranges his Q, your W reflects his Q back at him, and your passive autos shred him if he steps up.
  • Post-6, Veigar's R is a point-and-click stun that bypasses your W entirely since it's not a projectile, meaning he has a hard engage tool you cannot reflect, so the lane becomes significantly more dangerous and you must respect his all-in potential.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to use Q to apply Overwhelm stacks from range, then when he steps up to CS or attempts to Q you, activate W to reflect his Q back and follow with your E root to lock him in place for a full auto-passive burst rotation.
  • Avoid extended fights where he can land his E cage on you, as being stunned removes your ability to W and leaves you fully exposed to his burst.

Wave Control

  • Shove the wave with Q to deny him AP stacks from his passive and force him to farm under tower where your poke is harder to land — however, do not overextend past river without vision since his R is a global stun-into-execute that can kill you from anywhere on the map once he has stacks.
  • A slight freeze near your side of lane is also viable to bait him into walking up for CS and punishing with W-reflect into E root.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not rely on W to save you from his R — his R is a point-and-click stun, not a projectile, so activating W reactively when he ults does nothing and wastes your only defensive tool.
  • Many Mel players die to Veigar because they panic-W his R and then have no defense left when his Q and E follow up immediately after.
