Who Wins
- Pre-6, you win the lane through range advantage and poke with charged Q, but Illaoi's W grab at level 3 can punish you hard if you stand still to charge Q near her — post-6, her R makes extended trades a death sentence for you, so you must respect her all-in window entirely.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to auto-weave with W stacks active, fire a charged Q from max range, and immediately reposition to avoid her E tentacle slam — never commit to a sustained trade because her passive healing from tentacle hits will outpace your damage over time.
Wave Control
- Push the wave consistently to deny her the space to set up tentacles near you; a frozen wave under her tower is dangerous because tentacles spawn freely and she can E you into them, so keep the wave moving toward her side to limit her environmental control.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not stand still to fully charge Q when she is within E range — her E grab is fast and if you get pulled, you will eat a tentacle slam plus W damage with no escape tool, and that single mistake can cost you half your health or more.
