Who Wins
- Pre-6 you lose the poke war at long range, but at level 3 your E grab becomes a genuine kill threat if you can close the gap — post-6 your R is a hard win condition because Varus has no mobility to escape your tentacle field and the soul spawns will overwhelm him instantly.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to walk up and bait his Q charge, then immediately E to grab his soul when he commits to the animation — once the soul is out, slam it repeatedly with W while tentacles beat on him, as this combo deals massive damage and he cannot disengage cleanly.
Wave Control
- Let the wave push slightly toward you early so tentacles spawn near the center of the lane, giving you more environmental tools for your E grab; once you hit 6, you want a slow push or freeze near your side so that any all-in with R traps him in a tentacle-dense zone.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not walk into his max range repeatedly trying to force an E — he will whittle you down with poke and W stacks before you ever get a clean grab, so be patient and wait for him to overextend or misposition before committing to your engage.
