LaneDiff costs me $50/month to run. If it helped you win a lane, a small tip keeps it alive. 💙

Who Wins
- Pre-6, you have a meaningful range advantage and your Q blind negates Swain's auto-attack damage during trades, but Swain's W root setup and E damage-over-time mean extended trades punish you hard if you don't disengage quickly — you win short trades at level 1-2, but level 3 Swain with W+E+Q combo can chunk you severely if you're caught in his W.
- Post-6, Swain's R gives him massive sustain and makes him nearly unkillable in extended fights, so your window to kill him solo effectively closes unless he's already low and you can burst him before R heals him back.
How to Trade
- Your optimal trade pattern is to poke with auto-attacks and E mushrooms from max range, use Q only when Swain walks up aggressively or tries to land his W, then immediately disengage — never commit to a full trade because his E passive drain and R sustain will out-heal your damage over time.
- Force him to choose between farming and taking poke, and punish every W whiff with a quick auto-Q-auto combo before backing off.
Wave Control
- Push the wave consistently with E mushrooms placed in the brush and under minions to zone Swain off CS, as his melee-range W and short-range E mean he must walk up into your poke to farm effectively.
- A fast-pushed wave also denies him the sustained drain-tank pattern he wants, and forces him to either take tower damage or engage on you in unfavorable positions.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not stand still or walk predictably near his W landing zones — getting rooted by W into E+Q combo is the primary way Swain wins this lane, and if he lands that sequence at level 3 or beyond, he can follow up with ignite and kill you even through your blind.
- Avoid overextending for poke when his W is off cooldown, as one successful root negates your range advantage entirely.
