Who Wins
- Pre-6, Zed wins most extended trades due to his W shadow enabling safe poke and burst combos you cannot reliably punish at range; you can survive short trades if you land E to close gap and proc your passive healing, but Zed controls the pace until you hit 6.
- Post-6, you gain a meaningful power spike by stealing his R, which lets you threaten him with his own burst pattern, but Zed still wins if he lands his combo before you can respond with your own R.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to absorb a Zed poke, then immediately close with E when he overextends or mispositions after his W shadow is on cooldown, chain into Q for the slow and healing, and look for an extended fight where your sustain outscales his burst.
- Never trade when his W shadow is active and positioned behind you, as he can freely poke and disengage without risk.
Wave Control
- You want to shove the wave consistently with Q and W to deny Zed roam windows and force him to farm under tower, where his waveclear is weaker than yours.
- Avoid letting the wave freeze near his tower, as that gives him a safe environment to poke you without you being able to all-in him effectively.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not blindly use E to engage when Zed has his W shadow available, as he will simply disengage to it and you will have burned your gap-closer for nothing.
- Wasting E on a failed engage leaves you immobile and vulnerable to his follow-up combo.
