Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you do not win a straight all-in against a passive-stacked Irelia — her Q resets and burst damage outpace your setup time at levels 1–3, so your goal is to poke and punish her Q attempts rather than fight her head-on.
  • Post-6, your R fundamentally shifts the matchup in your favor: the healing, AoE damage, and drain make extended fights heavily favor you, and Irelia cannot burst you down fast enough if you activate it early in the trade.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to land E to slow her, follow with W root, then drain with R active — this forces her to either take the full combo or burn her E to escape, both of which are wins for you.
  • Avoid letting her dictate short trades where she dashes in and out; you need to root her and commit to a full exchange where your sustain matters.

Wave Control

  • You want to shove the wave consistently to deny her freeze setups and force her to farm under tower, where her Q reset patterns are less effective and she cannot safely stack her passive on minions.
  • A pushed wave also gives you priority to roam or contest objectives, which is important since Irelia outscales you in pure split-push scenarios.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your W root reactively after she has already started her Q chain — by the time she's dashing, the root will often miss or land too late to stop her burst.
  • Also avoid activating your R too late in a trade; if you wait until you're low, the healing won't save you — use it proactively at the start of a committed fight to maximize its value.
