Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you have a meaningful range advantage and can stack your passive on Darius safely as long as you respect his E range and never let him walk up through a thin minion line; at level 1-2 you can freely Q him, but at level 3 he gains E and becomes a genuine threat if you're caught out of position.
  • Post-6, you do not win a straight 1v1 if Darius has stacked his passive and lands E — your R is a disengage and repositioning tool, not a kill tool, and Darius's R will execute you through your healing if he gets a full bleed stack.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is sustained Q harassment from max range while walking perpendicular to deny his E angle, occasionally using W to clear waves and maintain distance.
  • You want to whittle Darius down to around 40-50% HP before he can ever reach you, making his all-in too risky to commit to — you never want to be in a position where he can E you at full HP.

Wave Control

  • You want to slow-push or freeze the wave near your side of the lane, forcing Darius to overextend to farm and exposing him to jungle pressure while keeping you safe from his E.
  • Avoid hard-shoving into his tower early, as that compresses the lane and removes your kiting space, which is your primary survival tool in this matchup.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not underestimate Darius's E range when you're low on HP — many Smolder players get complacent after poking him down and get pulled and executed when they thought they were safe.
  • Avoid using R aggressively as a damage tool in this lane; it has a long cooldown and if you waste it, you lose your only reliable escape from a Darius all-in.
