Scuttle Contest

  • At level 3, you lose the scuttle fight against Rengar if he has full ferocity stacks going into the trade — his burst from empowered Q and W combo outdamages your shield and Q-empowered autos before you can stack Passive to 3 for the max HP damage.
  • You need to engage with E into a wall stun to immediately disrupt his burst window, otherwise he will out-trade you short-range.
  • From level 6, your sure win condition is landing E into a wall stun to lock him in place long enough to stack Passive to 3 and then R to suppress him, preventing his empowered ability usage mid-fight; if he leaps onto you from brush, he controls the trade opener, so you must be the one initiating through terrain.

Predicted Jungle Path

  • Rengar will most likely start on the side of the map with the most brush coverage — typically Red side Krugs into Raptors into Red Buff, or Blue side Gromp into Blue into Wolves — prioritizing camps that let him reach level 3 fast and then look for an early gank or scuttle contest.
  • He will path toward river brush adjacent to scuttle to set up a leap ambush rather than fighting in open water.

Invade or Not

  • You should invade Rengar at his second or third camp around 3:15–3:45 if you can identify his starting side, because he is vulnerable between camps when ferocity is not pre-stacked and he has no leap target.
  • The optimal location is his buff camp on the opposite side from his start — catching him without a brush target nearby removes his primary damage amplifier and lets your E stun into wall punish him heavily.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not walk into brush or jungle corridors without vision when Rengar is alive and untracked — his leap from brush onto you resets your ability to initiate with E and forces you into a reactive fight where his burst front-loads damage before your Passive stacks can deal meaningful HP damage.
  • Burning E defensively or missing it entirely against Rengar is a critical mistake because it is your only hard CC and gap-close, and without it he can disengage or burst you down freely.
