Scuttle Contest
- At level 3 you win the scuttle fight against Skarner if you pre-stack ferocity to 4 before engaging — leap from brush, use empowered Q into W to burst through his shield before he can apply 3 Passive stacks for the max HP damage proc.
- If you fight in open terrain without a brush leap, Skarner's E stun into wall and sustained Passive damage will outlast your burst window, especially if he has any tank itemization.
- From level 6, your sure win condition is bursting Skarner below 40% HP before he can land E into a wall, because once he suppresses you with R you cannot use abilities to escape or retaliate during the suppress duration.
Predicted Jungle Path
- Skarner will likely path through terrain-heavy routes to maximize E wall-stun opportunities and look for early scuttle control around 3:15–3:30, often starting Blue side to reach river faster.
- He may also look to invade your jungle after his first clear if he identifies your starting side, using E through walls to cut off your pathing between camps.
Invade or Not
- You should avoid invading Skarner in his jungle unless you have full ferocity pre-stacked and a brush nearby to leap from, because in tight jungle corridors he can E you into a wall for a stun and immediately begin stacking Passive, which will deal significant max HP damage in a sustained fight.
- If you do invade, the optimal timing is around 3:30 at his second buff camp when his E is likely on cooldown from a recent use, reducing his ability to stun you into terrain.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not leap onto Skarner near walls or narrow jungle corridors — his E charges through terrain and grabs you mid-air or immediately after landing, and a wall stun into full Passive stack plus R suppression is a near-guaranteed kill with no counterplay available to you.
- Overcommitting to a fight after your burst fails to kill him is a critical mistake because his sustained damage, CC chain, and R suppression will outlast your ferocity-dependent burst once your empowered abilities are spent.
