Who Wins
- Pre-6, you lose short trades to Riven's burst combo and mobility if she plays correctly, but at level 3 your W shield absorbs a meaningful portion of her Q combo damage, making extended trades more viable — post-6, your R gives you a powerful engage or disengage tool, and your raw durability with a stacked W shield makes you increasingly difficult for Riven to burst down in a full fight.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to bait Riven's E or Q dash, then immediately begin charging W so she is forced to either take the full burst or disengage — if she stays to fight, your W knockup into auto-attack trading favors you heavily due to your superior base stats and passive sustain.
Wave Control
- You want to slow-push the wave by last-hitting and letting minions stack, then crash a large wave into Riven's tower to force her to choose between losing CS and overextending — this also sets up roam opportunities and denies her the ability to freely trade in a clean lane state.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use W preemptively before Riven commits her E dash, as she will simply wait out the channel and punish you during the cooldown — also avoid chasing Riven into her jungle when she is low, as her mobility makes her extremely difficult to catch and you will likely overextend into a losing position.
