LaneDiff costs me $50/month to run. If it helped you win a lane, a small tip keeps it alive. 💙

Who Wins
- Pre-6 you win this lane convincingly at levels 1-2 because your W shield absorbs Illaoi's E tentacle slam entirely and your Q knock-up lets you dictate trade length; at level 3 you still have the edge if you manage W timing correctly, but Illaoi's tentacle density starts to matter.
- Post-6 the matchup becomes genuinely dangerous — Illaoi's R spawns tentacles that ignore your W shield and her healing scales with the number of tentacles hitting, so you must avoid fighting her in a tentacle-dense area at all costs.
How to Trade
- Your best pattern is to W pre-emptively as you walk into Illaoi's E range, absorb the tentacle slam with the shield, then pop it aggressively into her face to deal burst damage and force her to back off before her tentacles can chain-slam you.
- Short trades heavily favor you because your W shield resets the damage equation; never let the fight drag long enough for multiple tentacle slams to accumulate.
Wave Control
- You want to hard shove the wave early and repeatedly to deny Illaoi the ability to set up tentacles around a stationary wave, because tentacles only spawn near her position and a fast-moving wave forces her to choose between farming and positioning for trades.
- Crashing waves also lets you back safely and denies her the slow-push setup she needs to make her R lethal.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your R to engage into Illaoi when she already has her R active — you will charge directly into a field of tentacles, your unstoppable state means you cannot cancel the dash, and her tentacles will slam you repeatedly during the entire duration of your R channel.
- Your R is better used to escape a losing fight or to engage from outside tentacle range when she has no R available.
