Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose most extended trades at levels 1-2 because Sion's W shield absorbs your E tentacle slam and he can stack damage back into you; level 3 shifts things slightly in your favor if you land E and have two tentacles nearby, but Sion can still W-pop to burst you if you overcommit.
  • Post-6, your R fundamentally changes the matchup — if you land E and pop R under two or more tentacles, Sion cannot walk out without taking massive damage, and his R actually becomes a liability if he uses it to engage into your R zone.

How to Trade

  • Your best pattern is to place yourself near a tentacle, bait Sion into using his W, then immediately E him the moment the shield pops — the window after W detonation is when he is most vulnerable and cannot shield your tentacle slams.
  • Avoid prolonged auto-attack trades where his passive and W sustain outvalue your healing; your damage needs to be burst-oriented through E into tentacle slams, not a slow grind.

Wave Control

  • You want a slow push into a large wave so that when Sion inevitably all-ins you, you have tentacles spawned around the wave and your R has maximum targets to slam.
  • Avoid hard shoving early because an empty lane with no tentacles near you strips your kill pressure entirely and lets Sion freely farm or back safely.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use E on Sion when his W shield is active — you will deal zero meaningful damage, waste your cooldown, and he will immediately trade back into you with full shield value still threatening to pop.
  • Respecting his W timing is the single most important mechanical discipline in this lane.
