Who Wins
- Pre-6, you lose the early poke war because Vel'Koz outranges you significantly and Lucian's burst at level 2 can chunk you before you build passive stacks — you cannot reliably engage without Nautilus landing his hook first.
- Post-6, the matchup flips heavily in your favor: once Nautilus hooks Lucian or Vel'Koz and you stack your passive to S-rank, your R deletes them before they can respond, and Lucian's R cannot trade into yours.
Synergy & Trading
- Your best pattern is to wait for Nautilus to land his Q hook, immediately dash in with your E to stack passive on both enemies using Q and autos, then pop R at S-rank — do not try to engage independently because Lucian's burst and Vel'Koz's CC will punish you before you reach melee range.
- Your passive shield helps absorb one poke ability, so use it to close distance after Vel'Koz wastes a Q.
Wave Control/Roaming
- You want to play a slow-push or freeze strategy early to deny Lucian the ability to poke you freely while you are walking up to last-hit.
- Freezing near your tower removes Vel'Koz's safe poke angle and forces them to overextend, giving Nautilus a better hook opportunity.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not dash into Vel'Koz's W knockup or Q slow trying to stack passive early — you will be CC'd in the open and Lucian will burst you down before Nautilus can peel.
- Your E dash is your engage tool but also your only repositioning option, so burning it on a bad trade leaves you immobile and vulnerable.
