Scuttle Contest

  • At level 3, you win the scuttle fight if you can proc your empowered Q from a bush near the river, as the burst damage combined with W self-heal gives you a short window of dominance before Volibear's W passive regeneration kicks in.
  • From level 6, your sure win condition is landing a clean R assassination when Volibear is below 60% HP and away from his own jungle, as his W passive revival mechanic requires him to drop to near-zero HP first, meaning a full burst combo from stealth can kill him before he recovers.

Predicted Jungle Path

  • Volibear will most likely start Red Buff side (bottom side), clear Raptors or Krugs, then take Scuttle and look for an early gank on a pushed lane around level 3-4.
  • He favors short, efficient clear paths that get him to level 6 quickly, so expect him to prioritize camps that give the most XP with minimal kiting.

Invade or Not

  • You should invade Volibear's second buff around 3:15-3:30 if you started opposite side, as he will be low HP after his first clear and your empowered Q burst can force a flash or secure a kill.
  • Target his Red Buff if he started Blue, or his Blue Buff if he started Red, and use the bush adjacent to the camp to guarantee your empowered Q proc.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not attempt to fight Volibear in an extended trade at full HP, especially near his own jungle where he can stall for his W passive to trigger — your burst window is narrow and if he survives the initial combo, his sustained damage and CC will outlast your ferocity stacks.
