Who Wins
- Pre-6, you win short trades at level 1-2 if you can proc your W burrow-unburrow combo before Malphite stacks his passive shield back up, but his passive regenerates quickly and his Q slow makes it hard to stick to him; post-6, Malphite's R completely negates your engage pattern since he can one-shot combo you before you can tunnel-cancel out, making the 1v1 heavily in his favor.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to poke with Q from range to chip his passive shield down, then immediately W-unburrow into him for the knock-up and burst before his passive resets — never commit to extended trades since his armor scaling and W passive make sustained damage increasingly inefficient as the game goes on.
Wave Control
- Push the wave aggressively early to force Malphite to spend mana on Q to last-hit or trade, since his mana pool is a real constraint pre-first-back; however, avoid letting the wave crash under his tower repeatedly because he is a better all-in threat post-6 and a frozen wave near his tower is a death trap for you.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not tunnel-engage on Malphite when his R is available and you have no vision of his positioning — his R is an instant hard CC that interrupts your unburrow, and if you commit to a full trade pattern while he has R up, you will likely die before you can deal meaningful damage.
