Who Wins

  • Pre-6 you win this lane convincingly — your range, E repositioning, and W blind let you harass Volibear freely while denying him any meaningful trade window, and at level 2 getting E early gives you an immediate escape tool that makes his Q nearly useless.
  • Post-6 you need to be more careful, as his R has a large AOE knockback that can interrupt your kiting pattern and deal significant burst, so respect his all-in potential and avoid letting him stack his passive on you.

How to Trade

  • Your optimal trade pattern is to auto-attack from range to proc your passive mark, then E onto him to proc the mark for bonus damage and immediately vault back to safety — this creates a hit-and-run cycle that chunks him down without letting him respond.
  • Use W proactively when he commits to a Q engage so the blind reduces his auto-attack damage during his window of aggression.

Wave Control

  • Keep the wave in a slow-push toward Volibear's tower by last-hitting carefully and letting your ranged autos naturally push — this forces him to either take poke while farming under tower or overextend to contest, both of which favor you.
  • Avoid hard-shoving the wave too fast, as it resets to his side and gives him a safer environment to walk up and attempt trades with minion cover.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use E aggressively onto Volibear when he has R available and is at high health — vaulting onto him gives him a stationary target and he can R immediately to knock you back and deal heavy damage before you can reposition.
  • Always track his R cooldown and treat it as a hard no-engage window unless you are confident you can burst him before he activates it.
