Who Wins

Pre-6, you and Kai'Sa lose direct trades against Nami + Lucian — Nami's W sustain and Lucian's burst mean that unless you land a hook into a full combo, you come out behind.
Post-6, your R execute combined with Kai'Sa R makes any low-health target killable, and this is the primary win condition for your lane.

Your trading pattern must be hook-dependent — use terrain and minion positioning to angle Q from unexpected directions, and only commit to a full engage when the hook lands cleanly.
If you miss Q, disengage immediately using E; do not try to fight Lucian in an open trade because his passive double-shot with Nami E will outdamage your melee auto pattern.

You should roam when the wave is shoved into the enemy tower and Kai'Sa can safely farm — your R execute is one of the strongest roam payoffs in the game, and mid lane kills generate gold for both you and the mid laner.
Avoid roaming when Lucian is healthy and pushing, as Kai'Sa cannot handle a Lucian dive alone.

Do not hook into Nami's Q — she will frequently pre-aim her Q at your hook path, and getting stunned mid-dash or immediately after landing removes your entire kill setup.
Also avoid using E aggressively as a gap-closer into Lucian's range; save it as an escape tool because losing it offensively leaves you with no way out when Lucian retaliates.
