Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win most extended trades due to your W passive absorbing Nocturne's Q damage reduction and your E being a reliable engage tool that denies his passive shield; at level 3 your full combo (E into Q into W) deals significant burst and he has no reliable escape.
  • Post-6, you retain the 1v1 advantage because your R can knock him away mid-fight to reset his passive and interrupt his R engage, but be cautious if he has his passive shield up before you commit.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to wait for Nocturne to use his Q (Duskbringer) on the wave, then immediately E into him to deny his passive shield proc and follow with Q into W activation; this forces him to fight without his movement speed bonus and damage reduction, which is where you win.
  • Avoid short trades where he can proc his passive shield freely and disengage, as that favors him over time.

Wave Control

  • You want to freeze or slow-push the wave near your side of the lane to force Nocturne to overextend for CS, making him vulnerable to your E engage without tower protection; your Q can also be used to push the wave efficiently when needed.
  • Avoid letting the wave crash into his tower repeatedly, as Nocturne clears faster with his Q empowered auto-attacks and will outpace you in a shoving contest.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your E aggressively when Nocturne already has his passive shield active, as you will deal minimal damage and he can trade back effectively with his empowered autos; always wait for the shield to be consumed by minions or poke before engaging.
  • Also avoid using your R purely as a damage tool in lane — its primary value in this matchup is interrupting his all-in or peeling his R engage, so save it for those moments.
