Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose the extended 1v1 against Poppy if she plays correctly, as her E denies your passive shield setup and her W blocks your Q empowered autos; however, at level 2 you can look for a short aggressive trade using Q into W spell shield to block her E, which is her primary engage tool.
  • Post-6, you do not reliably win the 1v1 in lane because her R can knock you away and reset your passive mid-fight, negating your all-in potential unless you bait it out first.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to use your W spell shield proactively to block her E before she can engage, then trade with Q-empowered autos and your E fear if she walks into melee range; short trades where you proc your passive shield and disengage are more favorable than extended fights.
  • Never commit to a full all-in unless her E is on cooldown, as it is her primary tool to lock you down and set up her full combo.

Wave Control

  • You want to use your Q to push the wave efficiently and look for roam opportunities with your R post-6, as you will not consistently win extended lane trades against Poppy; prioritizing side lane pressure and jungle skirmishes where your R engage is harder to counter is more valuable than fighting her in a straight 1v1.
  • If you must stay in lane, slow-push to build a large wave and crash it before roaming, denying her the ability to freely freeze.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your W spell shield reactively after she has already landed her E, as the CC will have already connected and the shield will be wasted; you must anticipate her E and activate W before the projectile hits.
  • Avoid fighting her in extended all-ins post-6 without first baiting out her R, as she can use it mid-fight to knock you away and completely negate your damage window.
