Pre-6, you win this matchup decisively from level 1 onward — your W stun into empowered Q burst deals more damage than Talon can trade back, and your passive shield blocks his Q poke entirely if you manage it well.
At level 3, your full combo (W stun → empowered Q → E) chunks Talon for 40–50% HP before he can disengage, making extended trades heavily in your favor.
Post-6, the matchup shifts: Talon's R gives him an escape and assassination window that your R cannot match in a straight duel, so you lose the kill threat advantage unless he's already behind.

Your optimal trade pattern is to bait Talon's Q poke, then immediately retaliate with W stun the moment he steps up — his short dash range on E does not reliably escape your W if you predict it.
Follow with empowered Q and E to lock him in place; do not use E first as it telegraphs your engage and lets him dash away before the stun lands.
Avoid extended auto-attack trades because Talon's passive bleed and Q return damage add up significantly if you don't end the trade quickly.

You want to shove the wave fast with E to deny Talon roam opportunities, since his R-enabled roams are his primary win condition in this matchup.
If you let him roam freely post-6, he will snowball sidelanes and return to lane with enough gold to outburst you.
When the wave is pushed, look to follow him or contest his roam path rather than sitting under tower passively.

Do not use your passive shield reactively against his Q poke — save it for his all-in combo, because his Q return damage and R burst together can kill you if your shield is already depleted from trading small.
Many Pantheon players burn the shield on a single Q poke and then get killed by the full assassination sequence immediately after.
