Scuttle Contest

At level 3 you win the scuttle fight against Kayn because your Q movement speed, passive attack speed, and W spell shield give you a reliable damage and defensive advantage before he has form.
At level 6 and beyond, you win 1v1s by activating W to block his Q or key ability, then running him down with Q and E fear — the fear duration alone gives you enough free damage to secure the kill if you are close to even in health.

Kayn will typically run a standard full clear and look to collect form stacks by fighting in narrow jungle corridors or ganking melee-heavy lanes.
He paths toward whichever side gives him the most melee targets for Shadow Assassin or tanks for Rhaast, so track which laners he is hovering and anticipate his gank routes accordingly.

You can invade Kayn at level 3 if you have vision of his starting position and know he is on the opposite side of the map, as your early dueling is superior before he has form stacks.
Target his second buff around 3:15–3:45 to deny resources and delay his form transformation, which significantly weakens his mid-game power spike.

Do not use your W reactively without a plan — if you waste it early in the fight and Kayn has not committed his Q yet, he will simply wait out your shield and then burst you with full combo.
Save W specifically to absorb his Q or E depending on form, as those are his highest-damage windows.
