Scuttle Contest

  • At level 3, you can contest scuttle against Briar if you time your W to block her E dash, denying her gap-close and forcing her to fight at a range disadvantage temporarily; however, her W healing is substantial and if she lands E freely, she will out-sustain your damage in a prolonged fight.
  • From level 6, your sure win condition against Briar is using your R to close distance before she can set up her own engage, then immediately activating W to block her follow-up E or Q, and bursting her down with your passive fear procs before her W healing can stabilize the fight.

Predicted Jungle Path

  • Briar typically starts Red Buff and paths Red > Raptors > Wolves > Blue > Gromp, looking to hit level 3 quickly and contest scuttle with her strong early skirmish kit.
  • She may also look for an early invade on your Red Buff if she starts Blue side, as her E gives her strong dive potential and her W sustain means she can fight at low HP without much risk.

Invade or Not

  • You should generally avoid a direct early invade on Briar before level 6 because her W healing and E mobility make her extremely dangerous in isolated 1v1 fights in the jungle where she can freely sustain.
  • If you do invade, do it at 3:30–3:45 on her second buff when she has taken damage from clearing, and only if you have your W available to block her E — otherwise the trade heavily favors her.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your W preemptively as a damage tool early in the fight — save it specifically to block her E dash or a critical ability, because if you waste the spell shield, she will freely gap-close and her W healing will make it nearly impossible to win the extended trade.
  • Additionally, avoid fighting her in the open river or jungle where she has room to re-engage after your initial burst, as her R repositioning and persistent W healing punish any fight that goes beyond the first few seconds.
