Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Shen's Q poke is consistent and his E taunt forces you into unfavorable trades if you're caught out of position; you do not win early trades cleanly, but your W and passive lifesteal allow you to sustain through his damage if you respect his E range.
  • Post-6, your R makes you nearly unkillable in a direct 1v1, and Shen's R being used elsewhere is your window to push for kills or tower plates.

How to Trade

  • Your best pattern is to W immediately when Shen taunts you with E, reducing his damage output during the forced trade, then use Q to heal back the damage he dealt; if he tries to poke with Q at range, simply walk up to stack and use your sustain to recover.
  • Avoid trading when your W is on cooldown, as that is when Shen's burst pattern is most effective against you.

Wave Control

  • You want to farm and stack as efficiently as possible, which means accepting some poke damage in exchange for Q stacks on cannon and melee minions; use W proactively when Shen steps up aggressively to discourage him from trading.
  • Do not let Shen freeze the wave deep on his side for extended periods, as this is where he denies you the most stacks — look to break the freeze with a slow push when you have enough HP to sustain through his poke.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not overcommit to fighting Shen when his R is available, as he can simply R away mid-fight or his team can collapse on you while you're committed; always track his R cooldown before going for extended trades or tower dives.
  • Stacking slowly and safely is your win condition, so avoid forcing fights that risk your death and set back your Q stack count significantly.
