Pre-6, you have a meaningful advantage because your Packmates provide free chip damage and trade pressure that Zaahen cannot fully answer without landing his W, which is a telegraphed skillshot you can dodge by sidestepping or dashing through it with your E.
At level 2 you already have your E dash available, which lets you engage and disengage quickly before Zaahen can stack his passive or land his full combo, making short trades heavily in your favor.
Post-6, you must respect his R since it hits a large AoE that will hit your Packmates and him simultaneously, rapidly stacking his Determination and triggering his revive if he's low — avoid letting him R onto you when his passive is near max stacks.

Your best trading pattern is to send Packmates in first to proc their damage and bait out Zaahen's W or E, then dash in with your own E to deal your burst while his cooldowns are partially spent.
After your burst combo, disengage immediately rather than extended-trading since Zaahen's Q healing and Determination AD scaling make prolonged fights increasingly favorable for him the longer they go.

You want to avoid pushing the wave mindlessly because Zaahen can use a shoved wave to force you under tower where your Packmates have less room to maneuver and his W pull is harder to dodge in a tight space.
Instead, look to control the wave near the center of the lane or freeze slightly toward your side, which gives you room to dodge his W and lets you roam with your R when opportunities arise in sidelanes.

Do not all-in Zaahen when his passive revive is active or near activation — his 4-second stasis on death means a kill attempt that leaves him at low HP will likely result in him reviving, healing from Q, and counter-killing you while your cooldowns are spent.
Track his Determination stacks visually and avoid committing to a full kill attempt unless he is well below the threshold where the revive would trigger.
