Scuttle Contest

At level 3, you win the scuttle fight if your packmates are alive and you land your Q to proc the bleed before he can sustain through it — Master Yi's W makes him deceptively tanky during the trade, so you need to burst him down before he can channel it fully and heal back up.
From level 6, your R gives you a reset window, but Yi's W healing and his raw DPS at full build means you only win a clean 1v1 if you can kill him before he stacks enough autos — use your E to reposition and force him to chase through your packmates, then Q to execute.

Master Yi almost always runs a full-clear path starting Red Buff side, clearing Raptors, Wolves, Blue, then Gromp before looking for Scuttle — he clears extremely fast and will contest Scuttle at level 3 or 4 depending on his start side.
Expect him to mirror your pathing if he spots you early, as he is confident in 1v1 trades at most stages of the game.

You should not invade Master Yi early unless you have vision confirming his exact location and he is low from clearing — his Q makes him untargetable and your packmates die instantly to his AoE, stripping your primary damage amplifier.
If you do invade, the optimal window is after he clears his second buff at approximately 3:15, catching him between camps at his Blue or Red side depending on his start, but only if your packmates are full health.

Do not use your E aggressively to gap-close onto Yi and then stand still trading autos — he will W through your burst, heal a significant portion back, and then out-DPS you with his passive stacks while your cooldowns are spent.
Your biggest mistake is treating this matchup like a pure burst assassin scenario; you need to use your packmates as meat shields and kite with Q rather than committing to a melee brawl.
