Who Wins
- Pre-6 you win most trades, especially at level 3 when your full combo with packmates active deals more burst than Gangplank can answer with Q alone.
- Post-6 the matchup becomes more dangerous because his R barrel detonation can one-shot your packmates and chunk you heavily before you can close the gap, so you need to engage on your terms with R.
How to Trade
- Your best pattern is to bait out his E by walking aggressively toward him, then once it is on cooldown, commit with your E gap-close into Q and let packmates deal passive damage during the trade.
- Short, explosive trades favor you heavily — do not let the fight drag into a barrel-chain situation where he can kite and detonate multiple barrels.
Wave Control
- You want to keep the wave in a state where you can all-in him without tower interference, so avoid hard shoving unless you are confident in a kill, as a frozen or slow-pushed wave near his tower removes your kill pressure.
- Deny him the ability to set up barrels by applying constant threat; if he is always reacting to you, he cannot pre-place barrels for a combo.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not blindly E into him when he has barrels pre-placed near his feet — this is the single most reliable way he kills you, as your E commits you to a location where he can instantly detonate a barrel chain for massive burst.
- Always check barrel placement before engaging; if barrels are down, either destroy them with auto-attacks first or wait for them to expire.
