Who Wins

  • Pre-6 you have a real edge: your Q root completely shuts down his E engage and his passive requires him to be in melee range to stack, so keeping him at range with threat of Q forces him to play passively or take free poke.
  • Post-6 you lose the matchup — once he Rs you, your Q is irrelevant at close range inside the Death Realm, your damage is insufficient to kill him before he heals with W and his stolen stats, and you have no escape tool.

How to Trade

  • Poke him with W torment followed by autos when he walks up to CS, and hold Q as a reactive tool to root him the moment he uses E toward you — rooting him mid-E or immediately after prevents him from completing the pull and lets you walk away safely.
  • Avoid trading in extended melee exchanges because his passive aura damage and W sustain will out-value your damage over time if you stay in range.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave with W to deny him the ability to freely walk up and stack passive on you, and use the resulting priority to back safely or contest vision so he cannot set up an R ambush in a side lane.
  • A frozen or slow-pushed wave near his tower is dangerous for you because it forces you to walk into his melee range to CS, which is exactly the condition he needs to E into you and eventually R.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not save your E purely as an R counter without also using it defensively during the laning phase — if you hold it too long waiting for his R, you will take unnecessary passive aura damage and W-heal trades that slowly drain your health lead.
  • Additionally, do not stand near walls when he is at 6, as his E can pull you into a wall-corner that makes dodging his follow-up Q and landing your own Q significantly harder.
