Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Zed wins most trades through levels 1-3 because his poke with Q is free, he can disengage before your passive stacks proc, and you have no reliable way to close the gap without landing E first.
  • Post-6, you heavily favor the R matchup because Zed's shadows don't follow him into Death Realm, stripping him of his primary damage pattern and escape tools while you steal a portion of his AD and use it against him.

How to Trade

  • Your best trade pattern is to absorb one or two Zed Q pokes to build W shield, then look to land E when he steps up to last-hit or trade, immediately follow with passive proc into Q for the single-target bonus damage, and activate W for healing if your health drops.
  • Never initiate without E landing first, as Zed will simply walk out of your range and your passive aura damage alone won't punish him enough.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave consistently to deny Zed the ability to freely poke you under tower, since standing in an open lane gives him free Q angles with no threat of retaliation.
  • A pushed wave also forces him to last-hit under tower, which limits his roam timing and gives you opportunities to look for R engages when he overextends to farm.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not waste R on Zed when he has his R active or immediately after he uses it, because his shadow displacement can create distance inside the Death Realm during the brief window before his R expires, and you need those 7 seconds to fully leverage your stat steal and passive damage.
  • Popping R when he is low on cooldowns and has no immediate escape tool is the correct timing.
