Who Wins
- Pre-6 you're even in trades if you can avoid Rakan's W-Q combo, using your superior range and Q bounce damage.
- Post-6 you win teamfights decisively with R if Maokai lands Q or R to lock them down, since Rakan can't reliably interrupt your channel through Maokai's peel.
Synergy & Trading
- Use Q bounces off minions to poke Aphelios when he's farming, and follow up Maokai's Q with E slow to extend the trade duration.
- When Maokai lands W root, immediately position for R channel since they can't escape the follow-up damage.
Wave Control/Roaming
- Push waves aggressively early to get level advantages and recall timings, since your E and Q give you strong wave clear.
- After 6, look to freeze near your tower when possible to set up Maokai roams while staying safe with your R self-peel.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Don't use R immediately when Rakan engages since he can W out of it - wait for Maokai's CC first or use it defensively.
