Who Wins
- You win pre-6 through superior range and poke potential, but Riven's level 2 all-in with Q-W can be dangerous if you're positioned poorly.
- Post-6, you maintain advantage if you land Q, but Riven's R gives her enough burst and mobility to kill you through your combo if she gets on top of you.
How to Trade
- Your optimal trading pattern is E-auto-Q when Riven uses Q to farm or engage, then immediately back off to avoid her gap close.
- Never try to extended trade - use your range to poke and disengage before she can retaliate with her full combo.
Wave Control
- Push early levels to establish range advantage and prevent Riven from freezing, but transition to neutral/slight push once she hits level 3-4 to avoid overextending.
- Keep the wave in the middle third of the lane where you can safely poke while having escape routes to your tower.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Don't use Q aggressively for poke when it's your only escape tool against Riven's gap closers.
- Missing Q when Riven has R available often means death, so save it defensively unless you're certain you can land it for a kill.
