Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose most extended trades because Yasuo's passive shield absorbs your Q poke before stacks can accumulate, and his E mobility lets him dodge or close the gap on your Q angles — level 3 is your first real window if you land a full 3-stack Q before he can E through minions to reset distance.
  • Post-6, your R's 99% slow and execution threshold give you a decisive kill condition, but Yasuo's Wind Wall will block your R projectile if he reads it, so you must bait it out with Q before committing your ultimate.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to stack Q from max range while staying behind minions to limit his E pathing, then commit to E-W all-in only when you have 3 stacks and his Wind Wall is on cooldown — the W true damage during the all-in forces him to either disengage or die, and you can recast W to heal if he burns his burst on you.
  • Never initiate with E first; without Q stacks pre-loaded, your E damage is too low to justify the cooldown and you lose the trade.

Wave Control

  • You want a slow push into a freeze near your tower, which denies Yasuo the minion wave he needs to stack his passive shield repeatedly and limits his roam threat — a frozen wave also forces him to overextend to CS, giving you a clean Q stack setup.
  • Avoid shoving the wave freely because Yasuo under tower is dangerous with his E mobility, and a pushed wave removes your ability to punish his aggression.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use W as a panic button the moment Yasuo trades into you — W's true damage is a liability if you recast it immediately without dealing meaningful damage, and you waste the heal bonus that scales with damage taken.
  • Burning W reactively also leaves you without your all-in tool for 14+ seconds, which is exactly the window Yasuo needs to all-in you without counterplay.
