Kayle is a ranged champion with consistent poke and waveclear, but pre-6 she has limited burst and no mobility, which means you can look to all-in her once you hit level 3 and have Q stacks available — land Q to build stacks, then E in and activate W to sustain through her retaliation while your passive shreds her missing health.
However, post-6 Kayle's R makes her untargetable at the exact moment you want to cash in your combo, so she can completely negate your all-in timing if she uses it reactively, shifting the 1v1 advantage heavily in her favor as she scales.

Your best trading pattern is to stack Q on Kayle from range to apply marks, then E in when she's committed to last-hitting or out of position, immediately activating W to absorb her counterattack while your passive and E dash deal burst damage — the key is not initiating while she has R available.
If she burns R defensively, you have a window to re-engage with E reset potential if you secure a nearby minion kill, so always track her R cooldown before committing to a full combo.

You want to shove the wave early to deny Kayle farm and force her to last-hit under tower, since she is weak at clearing under pressure before her mid-game power spike — use Q to poke her off the wave while she's trying to CS.
Once she hits her item spikes around Nashor's Tooth, her waveclear becomes too fast to contest, so transition to roaming with R to generate leads elsewhere rather than fighting a losing attrition battle in lane.

Do not use E as a gap-closer into Kayle when her R is available, because she will simply use R to become untargetable and your entire combo window is wasted while you're left exposed in melee range with W ticking true damage on yourself.
Patience in tracking her R cooldown is the single most important discipline in this matchup — a mistimed all-in against a reactive Kayle R is a near-guaranteed death.
